April 30, 2007 ~ Pearl Toy, MD, has been named the recipient of the 2007 International Woman in Transfusion Award, a lifetime achievement award given jointly by the three major transfusion medicine professional societies. (Link to Article)

February 1, 2007 ~ UCSF Medical Center has named Diane "Dede" Wilsey to lead the philanthropic effort in behalf of UCSF Medical Center's new state-of-the art clinical facility planned for construction at Mission Bay. (Link to Article)
January 9, 2007 ~ In 1902, smallpox and influenza were among the contagious diseases threatening New York City schoolchildren. To help treat and prevent these diseases, the district hired a nurse named Lina Rogers. In just her first month of service, Rogers worked with hundreds of students and their families, both at school and in students’ homes. When the Board of Health hired a dozen additional nurses to help with the workload, school nursing was born. (Link to Article)
December 21, 2006 ~ Amy Levine, director of the UCSF Center for Gender Equity, has been appointed to a Presidential Staff Fellowship at the UC Office of the President (UCOP). (Link to Article)
December 14, 2006 ~ School of Nursing faculty Geraldine Padilla and Erika Froelicher and Frederic Marteau, who is visiting UCSF from Belgium, are among the 2006 Fulbright scholars. (Link to Article)
October 27, 2006 ~ UCSF postdoctoral scholar Elizabeth Fair is helping to shape the future direction of Global Health Sciences (GHS). Since GHS began only three years ago with the vision of Executive Director Haile Debas, Fair has been working alongside about 65 researchers from UCSF and UC Berkeley on strategic planning to determine the institute’s mission and future goals, as well as to devise models for applying basic science to global health work over the next five to 10 years. October 27, 2006 ~ Kavita Mishra vividly remembers the Algerian motorcycle accident victim she met while volunteering at a hospital in Madrid. “A large portion of his brain and skull was gone, but he could still speak four languages,” Mishra, 23, recalls. Greenblatt has been awarded a prestigious Women in Medicine Leadership Development

October 28, 2005 ~ Two faculty members have been elected as fellows of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Snythia H. Mellon, professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences, is recognized in the biological sciences section for leadership of women in endocrinology and for delineating the biosynthetic pathways, biological actions and pharmaceutical uses of neurosteroids. this second edition, three years in the making, is a landmark in health care

January 6, 2003 ~ $21 Million for UCSF Cancer
Study, Care, Outreach -Rena Pasick, DrPH, accepted new position of associate
director for education and outreach, served most recently as director of Prevention
Sciences and as a research scientist at the Northern California Cancer Center,
where she has been based since 1989. A UCSF associate professor of medicine,
Pasick is responsible for coordination of activity in cancer education, communication

November 1, 2002 ~ Georgianne Meade, director
of the Office of Research Development at UCSF, raises breeding dogs for the
blind. In 1991, she helped start Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, a nonprofit

individuals and families with a high cancer risk, including many women who,
